Strelitzia Nicolai grow best in bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight may scorch the leaves. This plant does have white flowers but these rarely grow in plants under two metres. They are grown instead for the long lush foliage.
They can cope for periods in partial shade but need bright light longer term. Some early morning or late afternoon direct sun is OK.
Keep the soil moist (not soggy) during warmer months and water when the top inch of the soil has become slightly dry. During the winter months, allow the soil to dry out more. Do not allow to stand in water.
This plant prefers warm temperatures from 21-28°C but can cope with as low as 13°C.
Mist occasionally in the morning, during warmer months or to combat central heating. Wipe the large leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust.
